A sign of the times, perhaps:

The Sears sign was removed from Main St. in Marion this week after that franchise was canceled by the company.

Margaret Sellers Harris, who has operated the catalog store successfully for many years, watched as the sign came down.

Marion High School class of 1993 graduates should remain active in their community, State Rep. Duane Goossen said at commencement ceremonies Sunday.

Ashley Loomis was named valedictorian, and Traci Darrow was salutatorian of the class.

Outstanding senior girl awards were given to Jennifer Hanson and Lesley Sieger. Outstanding senior boy was Thurston Thies.

Tom Lahey, aka “Major Astro” enjoyed a meal Sunday at the Owl Car Café in Marion, where he had celebrity status, with many of those present having watched him during their impressionable years. He was generous with autographs.

Sherry Lange has been selected student of the month for May by the Marion High School faculty. She graduated Sunday with honors. Sherry’s parents are Larry and Ruth Lange of Marion. She plans to attend Tabor College and major in occupational therapy.

Stacey Long graduated Saturday from the registered nurse program at Newman School of Nursing in Emporia. After graduation, she will be employed as a nurse at St. Joseph Medical Center in Wichita.
