Mayor Gerry Harris welcomed 15 visiting students from Berlin-Tempelhof, Germany at Monday afternoon’s session of Marion City Commission. This is the 10th trip to Marion sponsored by Paper Press, a youth organization in Germany. The first trip was in 1985.

Jeannine Bateman of rural Marion was selected Monday by Republican precinct committee members to become Marion County treasurer. Bateman will replace Verden Harms, who resigned March 16.

Auctioneer Ted Haefner of Lincolnville is featured this week in Amy Smith’s column, “They Made a Difference.” Haefner has been in the auction business since 1950.

Kevin Marler is student of the month at Marion High School. Kevin, son of Doug and Janet Marler of Marion, plans to attend Kansas State University-Salina College of Technology to pursue a degree in architectural engineering.

Marion-Florence Recreation sponsored a four-day charter trip to Lookout Village in Fraser, Colorado. A group of 40 skied Winter Park and the Mary Jane area.
