“Business was brisk at downtown Marion stores on St. Patrick’s Day, and a lot of people came to town to enjoy the sales and celebrate with us,” Marion Chamber of Commerce president George Jackson said.

Several Girl Scouts were recognized at a father-daughter potluck Thursday evening for having sold more than 100 boxes of cookies. Recognized were Brenda Berg, Kelley Enos, Wendy Hett, Jolene Smith, Jamie Vogel, Sherri Winkler, and Ramona Zeller, who was top salesman with 179 boxes. Kelley followed with 176.

Five Florence Middle School students will represent the Marion school district in a countywide spelling bee March 28 at the elementary school’s multi-purpose room. They are Melissa Krispense, Rochelle Mueller, and Linda Robinson and alternates David Hanson and Jacqueline Hett.
