The latest group of youngsters winning Christmas-time drawings sponsored by Marion Chamber of Commerce include Glenn Bartel, who won a bicycle; Karen Young, roller skates; Terry Taylor, basketball and goal; Sue Ewert, doll set; and Tom Kanady, Secret Sam detective set.
Harold J. Wiens was elected president Saturday evening of Marion Community Athletic Association. Gerry Harris was elected vice president; Boyce Baumgardner, secretary; and Dwight Adams, treasurer.
First prize in the Chamber of Commerce Christmas lighting contest went to Mr. and Mrs. H.A. Crainer Jr., 636 E. Main St., $15. Second prize went to Mr. and Mrs. J. Ira Newcomer, 321 N. Cedar St,, $10, and third prize to Mr. and Mrs. Ruben Zerger, 1120 Highland St.
Marion’s city ball team, dubbed the “Mashers,” has scheduled a game that will draw a lot of attention. They will play a team of alumni from Marion High School. So far on the roster of the alumni are John Christensen, Larry Ensey, Lowell Ensey, Max Jackson, Keith Just, Ron Oelschlager, John Russell, Gene Schimpf, and Jon Schimpf.
The annual New Year’s Day coyote hunt sponsored by Happy Hustlers 4-H Club will begin at 10 a.m. Jan. 1 at the Youngtown corner. A noon meal will be served at the Walt Hayen farm.
This week’s meat specials at Al and Art’s Quality Market include fresh pork roasts, 39 cents a pound; sugar cured hams, 69 cents a pound; sliced bacon, 79 cents a pound; boneless holiday hams, $1.18 a pound; and fresh home-style smoked sausage, 69 cents a pound.
