Statewide attention is being focused Marion’s way these days with the current unbroken winning streak of the MHS Warriors now extending to 21 consecutive games.

Mrs. Paul Minear reports that from 265 to 300 lunches are begin served each day by the new hot lunch program at the Marion schools with considerably more expected in the cooler months ahead.

The women who handle the daily cooking include Mrs. Minear, Mrs. Lydia Skibbe, Mrs. Clive Jarvis, Mrs. Ed Pientka, and Mrs. W.W. McKibbin.

Marion City Commission voted Monday to furnish any regularly-organized church with electric current from the municipal lines to illuminate the front of their building, street, and sidewalks free of charge. Number of lights is limited to two, and they will go off and on with the regular street lights.

A new business will come to Marion Oct. 27 with the opening of M-C Radio Shop operated by John Britain, formerly of Elm dale. The shop will be located on North Second St. near the Cubby Hole in the building that had housed Steve’s Barber Shop. The firm will handle radio repair work and will also offer a line of Zenith radios.

Captain Emil J. Kapaun, Catholic chaplain with the Eighth Regiment of the U.S. First Cavalry in Korea, and who is at present listed as “missing in action,” has just been awarded the Distinguished Service Cross.

Riddle Quarries has announced this week that plans are underway for the firm to construct at least six new homes in Florence, if applications can be secured. Twenty-five houses have been allocated for that town.

The American Legion clubrooms will be open three nights of each week, starting this Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, according to the Legion house committee. Admittance will be by current Legion card only.
