According to accident reports released this past week:

SHERIFF

US-56 east of Remington Rd.

A chair fell off a trailer in windy weather and was struck by a vehicle headed in the opposite direction at 3 p.m. April 24.

Margaret Harris, 76, rural Marion, was eastbound, towing the trailer behind her 2007 Ford Explorer.

The chair was still moving when it was struck by a westbound 2012 Dodge Journey owned and driven by Sheryl Key, 59, rural Lincolnville.

Neither she nor her passenger, Misty Williams, 37, Lincolnville, was reported injured, but her SUV had to be towed.

Harris was cited for allegedly failing to secure her trailer’s load.

US-77 south of 50th Rd.

An Oklahoma woman’s minivan careened into a rain-filled ditch and became stuck in mud after she hit a deer at 7:30 p.m. April 30.

Driver Rita May, 70, Edmond, was not reported to be injured, but her 2008 Honda Odyssey had to be towed.

290th Rd. west of Timber Rd.

Inattentive driving was blamed for a one-vehicle rollover at 1 a.m. May 6. Sheriff’s deputies were not notified until more than eight hours after the accident.

Dakota Stimpson, 19, rural Marion, was reported to be uninjured after he drove his 2003 Toyota Tacoma off the roadway and into a ditch.

No citations were issued.

K-15 south of 140th Rd.

A one-vehicle rollover involving serious injury at 2:15 p.m. May 7 was blamed on a driver overcorrecting after a tire on her pickup dropped off the pavement.

Carolyn Windsor, 77, Newton, was taken to Via Christi - St. Francis Hospital, Wichita, after being extricated from her 1999 GMC Sonoma, which crossed K-15’s centerline and rolled into the opposite ditch after she apparently overreacted to its right front tire leaving the pavement.

The pickup sustained extensive damage to its left, front, right, and top.

US-56 west of Bison Rd.

Kevin Blackwell, 53, Canton, hit a deer with his 2007 Peterbuilt pulling a semitrailer at 6:11 a.m. May 8.

US-50 west of Bluestem Rd.

Brian Kelley, 39, Emporia, hit a deer with his 2011 Chevy Cruze at 5:41 a.m. May 9. The car had to be towed.

US-77 south of 40th Rd.

A turkey in flight smashed the passenger side of the windshield of a 2012 Chevy Malibu owned and driven by Marla Basset, 49, Cassoday, at 8:33 a.m. May 9. The car had to be towed.

K-15 north of 70th Rd.

A dog owned by resident Darrel Schoeder ran onto the highway to chase a motorcycle at 8:45 a.m. May 9 and was hit by a 2012 Toyota Prius owned and driven by Judy Morse, 70, Hillsboro.
