These accident reports were released this past week by law enforcement agencies:

SHERIFF

9th and Walnut Sts., Peabody

Distracted by looking at a nearby building, Teresa Klenda, 73, rural Lincolnville, drove her 2019 Ford Eclipse into a stop sign at 9:15 a.m. March 2.

Her car sustained disabling damage to its left front and undercarriage and was towed.

No tickets were issued.

175th and Timber Rds.

Lander M. Smith, 17, Marion, was ticketed on suspicion of driving recklessly and leaving the scene of an accident after he drove his 2001 Jeep Cherokee into a ditch while turning west at 3:26 p.m. March 4.

The Jeep went off the road to the right, came back on the road, fishtailed for 445 feet, ran off the road again to the right, and hit a barbed-wire fence owned by Christopher T. Navrat of Fairway.

The vehicle sustained disabling damage to its undercarriage, front, and left side and was towed.

30th Rd. near US-77

Garret J. Huffman, 20, Lindsborg, hit a cow on the roadway at 7:40 p.m. March 6.

His 2004 Chevrolet Silverado sustained damage characterized as minor to its front and hood.

The cow was owned by Rodney Morgan of rural Burns.

Sunflower Rd. north of 120th Rd.

Sally Hannaford, 76, Marion, hit a deer at 10:08 a.m. Thursday with her 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe, which remained drivable with damage to its right front.

Roger Hannaford III, 69, of the same address was a passenger.

US-56/77/K-150 roundabout

Thomas E. King, 23, McPherson, was ticketed for failing to display proof of liability insurance after he dozed off at 1:45 a.m. Friday and drove a 2009 Ford Focus through the roundabout and into a yield sign.

The Ford, owned by Laraine D. King of Haysville, sustained disabling damage to its front and undercarriage and was towed.

US-56 west of Cedar St. / Sunrise Rd.

Robert A. Welsh, 64, Florence, lost consciousness or fell asleep at 9:34 a.m. Sunday and, after crossing a bridge, drove his eastbound 2003 Chevrolet Silverado off the north side of US-56, through a ditch, and into Clear Creek.

Deputy Jesse Raney’s report suggested Welsh might have been ill or under the influence of medication.

He was rescued by a Hillsboro fire department boat. Marion firefighters and Marion ambulance also responded, but Welsh apparently was uninjured.

Welsh’s truck sustained extensive damage and was towed, but it was not listed as destroyed.

HILLSBORO

100 block of S. Birch St.

Steven D. Gann, 64, rural Lehigh, backed his 2010 Ford F-150 at 8:15 a.m. March 5 into a legally parked 2014 Jeep Patriot owned by Sherlyn D. Hill, rural Galva.

Damage to both vehicles was characterized as minor.

MARION

Sunflower Rd. north of 170th Rd.

As reported in a news story last week, sheriff’s deputy Joshua Meliza, 35, hit a deer at 5:37 a.m. March 5 with his 2020 Dodge Durango patrol vehicle. Newly hired deputy Clayton Philpott, 24, was a passenger.

The patrol vehicle sustained damage characterized as minor to its left side. Marion police investigated to provide an independent accident report.
