Affidavit portrays angry incident in wheat field

Details of an incident in which a Marion man is charged with battery of a teen neighbor emerged as he made his first appearance in court July 14.

According to a probable cause affidavit, a witness said Kannady jumped on the steps of a tractor June 19 in a wheat field half a mile south of 260th Rd. on Pawnee Rd., opened the cab door, yelled at the teen, grabbed him by the collar of his shirt, shook him, and yelled about “ending them if they can’t slow down.”
The teen told deputies he had earlier been a passenger in a grain truck when Kannady pulled out in front of the truck. The truck followed Kannady a short distance until Kannady pulled into his driveway. The teens honked and waved at him.
The teen who allegedly was battered told deputies that Kannady later jumped into the tractor and said “he would kill anyone in his path.”
Deputies spoke to Kannady at his home. Kannady said the truck had tailgated him and honked at him. He pulled into his driveway and waited for the truck to return to the field.
Kannady said he went to the field because he was mad, and in previous years, his dogs had been run over during harvest. Kannady admitted he jumped up on the tractor and yelled at the teen. He said the teen made a rude remark before Kannady lost his temper.
He admitted he grabbed the teen by the shirt but said he didn’t mean to scare him. He denied having threatened to kill anyone but said he was not sorry for “getting his point across.”
If convicted, Kannady could be sentenced to as long as six months in jail and fined.
The name of the teen was redacted from the probable cause affidavit by the court.
