Bluebirds split with Bombers

Staff writer

Goessel basketball teams were on the road Tuesday for makeup games at Wakefield, with the girls notching a convincing win and the boys falling short.

The Bombers fizzled and the Bluebirds sizzled as Goessel dominated the girls’ game 42-13.

Goessel defenders allowed just 1 point in the first quarter as Goessel jumped on top 10-1.

The Bluebirds led by 20 at halftime, and the running clock came into play in the fourth quarter.

The Hiebert cousins, Eden and Brittney, led Goessel scorers with 12 and 10 points respectively.

Goessel’s record remains unblemished at 6-0, and 2-0 in league play.

Friday at home against Solomon, followed by three weeks of away games.

Boys

A promising halftime lead for the Goessel boys evaporated in a third-quarter scoring drought that allowed the Bombers to surge to a 37-25 win.

Goessel was on top 12-8 at the end of a low-scoring first half, but the Bluebirds faltered after the break, scoring just 2 points in the third quarter.

Dylan Lindeman and Rhett Makovec each scored 6 points for Goessel.

The boys are 2-4 overall and 0-2 in WSL.

Both teams will play Solomon at home Friday, and won’t have another home date until Little River comes calling Jan. 30.
