Child porn draws prison term

Marshall Ray Swanson, 61, Peabody, was sentenced Monday to six years nine months in prison for two counts of sexual exploitation of a child.
He was charged March 7, 2024, with 12 counts of sexual exploitation of a child for possession of visual depictions of a child younger than 18 shown or heard engaging in sexually explicit conduct.
He pleaded no contest Sept. 30 to two counts. Remaining counts were dismissed.
Swanson’s lawyer, Christopher Ambrose, asked that Swanson be sentenced to probation instead.
Ambrose wrote that Swanson underwent a psychosexual evaluation and that the evaluator recommended outpatient treatment.
“This can be completed at Prairie View in Marion County,” Ambrose wrote. “Prairie View additionally provides wraparound services, so any necessary drug treatment can be provided there as well.”
County attorney Michelle Brown argued that Swanson be given consecutive prison sentences. Judge Susan Robson sentenced Swanson to a total of six years nine months in prison followed by lifetime supervision. On Monday, Ambrose filed a notice of appeal of the sentence.
Marshall was convicted in Harvey County in 2021 of possession of methamphetamine.
