Members of the GAP club at Hillsboro High School worked hard Tuesday to create a pleasant shopping experience for girls in need of prom dresses.
Big pink bows, pink streamers, and beaded ropes transformed the entrance into Wiebe Media Center at the high school into a shoppers’ paradise, complete with mood music and confectionary treats.
The goal was to make prom dress shopping less stressful and more enjoyable, and for Arianna Ciero and her mother, Angela, the choices were promising.
“I’m just looking for something that catches my eye,” Arianna said. “I’ve been invited to a home-school prom and hope to find something here to wear.”
Several dresses caught Ciero’s eye, including a black sparkly number with spaghetti straps and an interesting back line.
“Many of the dresses are brand-new,” said Janet Whisenhunt, who helped organize the shopping event. “Some are donated after being worn only once, others we went out and purchased with monetary donations we have received.”
At least four racks were jammed with brightly colored dresses in a variety of different lengths and styles.
Though the two planned open dates for Cinderella’s Closet have passed, prom dress shoppers can still peruse the offerings by making a private appointment. Those interested may call the Hillsboro High School office at (620) 947-3991 for showing times.
