Cleda L. Meyer

Cleda Louise Meyer, 71, of Alma died Nov. 7 at her home. She was born Feb. 3, 1941, in Fayette County, Ill., to Oscar A. and Fern (Harrison) Copple.

She graduated from Council Grove High School in 1959. She married John F. Meyer on Aug. 26, 1962, at Church of Christ Christian in Council Grove.

Her career was in nursing for 49 years, beginning as a nurse assistant at Morris County Hospital. She graduated from Stormont-Vail School of Nursing in 1962, earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing at Marymount College of Salina in 1987, and a master’s degree in nursing from Wichita State University in 1991. She earned a doctorate in 2002 from the University of Kansas.

She is survived by her husband, John of the home; three sons, Mark Meyer of Hillsboro, Brian Meyer of Wichita, and Eric Meyer of Austin, Texas; two daughters, Toni Svitak and Terri Meyer of Herington; two brothers, Glenn Copple of Lakeland, Fla., and Earl Copple of Arlington Heights, Ill.; a sister, Lorna McFarren of Topeka; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were Friday at Parkerville Baptist Church in Parkerville with Pastor Bob Strom officiating. Burial followed at Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Latimer. Visitation was Thursday at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home & Crematory, Herington Chapel.

A memorial fund has been established for Morris County Hospital Foundation Nursing Scholarship.
