Marion County Commission approved refinancing for two road graders for the Road and Bridge Department.
The commission went with a bid from Cottonwood Valley Bank for 2.74 percent interest for five years. Road and Bridge Department has a maintenance agreement with Foley Equipment for the machines.
The department’s tire contract with Rod’s Tire and Service in Hillsboro was approved for $68,404.
In other business:
- The commission decided to reopen the county courthouse roofing job after consulting with Greg Leslie of The Garland Company Inc. He advised the commissioner to cover the top of the clock tower with painted metal shingles because they will last longer and will not cost much covering the small surface area. Leslie also informed commissioners of worked needed to seal areas around the clock tower glass on the inside.
- After a 10-minute executive session to discuss personnel, the commission agreed to pay the extra amount needed to cover Kansas Public Employees Retirement amount to Cindy Reeh who will surpass 999 hours in her part-time job as immunization nurse and Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children representative. Commission Chairman Dan Holub said the commission would consider making Reeh a full-time employee next year.
- The commission approved a skid steer cover for the transfer station. The cover is meant to protect employees. The commission was influenced by a story of a skid steer operator in Japan who was impaled by a piece of wood that slid into the cabin of the skid steer.
