Crafts fair draws big crowd

Staff writer

This year’s Arts and Crafts Fair saw not only a decent number of attendees, but decent weather for shopping along Main and Grand Sts. at Saturday’s fair.

“The weather was beautiful,” assistant fair director Marcella Mohn said. “I think it went very well.”

According to Police Chief Dan Kinning, the fair drew in an estimated 45,000 to 50,000 attendees Saturday to Hillsboro, but what seemed like a large number didn’t feel that way while walking up and down the streets.

“It seemed like they were spread out during the day,” Mohn said. “They didn’t have one mass of people.”

Mohn was not able to answer exactly how the vendors did at the fair, but she did say that they all seemed happy when checking out at the end of the day.

Mohn also said that aside from the abundance of good weather at the fair, they also had an abundance of good volunteers.

“We’re very grateful for the volunteers,” Mohn said. “Without them, we wouldn’t have a fair.”
