‘Del’ Hollon

Delmar Weir Hollon, 69, of Arkansas City, passed away Monday, June 12, at the Robert J. Dole VA Medical Center in Wichita.

Memorial services were at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 20, 2017, at the Winfield Kansas Veterans Cemetery. Memorials may be made out to the Disabled Veterans of America. Memorial contributions may be left in care of Shelley Family Funeral Home of Winfield, 803 Loomis St. Winfield, KS 67156.

Delmar “Del” Hollon was born Jan. 21, 1948, in Wichita to proud parents Dale and Verla Marie (Bass) Hollon. Del graduated from Southeast High School in 1966 and in 1967 joined the United States Navy. He later went on to get his bachelor’s degree from Wichita State University in 1976.

Del was married to the love of his life, Linda J. Freeman, on March 28, 1970, in Chelsea, Massachusetts. Del spent many years working for Sedgwick County as a youth residence counselor. He retired in 1998.

Del spent his free time collecting different items from coins to stamps. He also loved technology and enjoyed taking computers apart and rebuilding them. He also worked on cars whenever he was able.

Del is survived by his wife of 47 years; his children, Mary Wares and husband, Mike; Christopher Hollon and wife, Jamie; and Naomi James and husband Nicholas; and grandchildren William, Austin, Peyton, Malachi, Lily, Amylia, and Nicholas II. He was preceded in death by his parents.
