Broadcasts about these fire and ambulance calls were monitored this past week by the newspaper:

JUNE 25

11:48 a.m. — An 11-year-old boy having a seizure in a car in Bomgaars parking lot in Hillsboro was taken to Hillsboro Community Hospital by Hillsboro ambulance.

3:40 p.m. — An 82-year-old woman who, according to an alarm company, fell at a home in the 700 block of N. Peabody St. in Peabody declined to be taken to a hospital by Hillsboro ambulance.

8:57 p.m. — Hillsboro firefighters were called to shut off leaking gas at a residence in the 300 block of S. Ash St. in Hillsboro, but an Atmos Energy crew already was there when they arrived.

JUNE 26

12:42 a.m. — A nauseated, vomiting 61-year-old woman was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke Hospital, Marion, to Wesley Medical Center, Wichita. The ambulance returned to Marion at 3:37 a.m.

9:42 a.m. — A dizzy 84-year-old woman who could not get off a toilet at a home in the 200 block of S. Date St. in Hillsboro was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.

9:44 a.m. — A man who fell in an upstairs apartment in the 300 block of N. 3rd St. in Marion was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance. Dispatchers did not initially specify north or south, and the ambulance went south.

3:22 p.m. — A confused 86-year-old man with a fever and a urinary tract infection at a duplex in the 300 block of N. Ash St. in Hillsboro was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.

7:58 p.m. — An ailing 82-year-old man who fell at a home in the 600 block of N. Locust St. in Peabody was taken to St. Luke by Hillsboro ambulance.

9:25 p.m. — A 54-year-old man slurring his words and breathing ineffectively at Westview Manor in Peabody was taken by Marion ambulance to Ascension Via Christi St. Francis Hospital, Wichita. The ambulance was diverted there from NMC Health, formerly Newton Medical Center. The call originally went to Hillsboro ambulance, but Marion ambulance opted to take it instead. Hillsboro ambulance then decided to join Marion ambulancel after dispatchers announced that the patient was turning blue and that nursing home staff members were shouting at each other and refusing to prepare him for cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Nursing home staff informed dispatchers that COVID-19 was present in the facility but that the patient had tested negative. The transporting ambulance returned to Marion at 12:32 a.m.

THURSDAY

7:57 a.m. — A St. Luke patient was transferred to Wesley by Marion ambulance.

8:21 a.m. — As Hillsboro firefighters arrived, an alarm company reported that a fire alarm at Parkside Homes was a false alarm.

6:20 p.m. — A baler fire near 210th and Xavier Rd. was extinguished after 1½ hours by Marion firefighters.

7:03 p.m. — A man in his 60s throwing up at a residence in the 100 block of S. Olive St. in Peabody declined to be taken to a hospital by Hillsboro ambulance.

FRIDAY

9:36 a.m. — A 58-year-old woman with sepsis was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from HCH to Wesley. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 12:11 p.m.

SATURDAY

12:51 p.m. — A dizzy 84-year-old woman with chest pains at a home in the 300 block of N. Vine St. in Peabody was taken to NMC Health by Hillsboro ambulance. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 3 p.m.

7:49 p.m. — A 63-year-old man who fell at Salem Home in Hillsboro was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.

10 p.m. — A weak 86-year-old man unable to get up at a farmhouse near Yarrow Rd. and the Marion / Morris County line was evaluated by a Lincolnville first responder and then taken to St. Luke by Tampa ambulance, which 35 minutes after the initial call.

10:12 p.m. — Hillsboro ambulance was dispatched to Westview Manor for a report of a man having a seizure but was told to stand down after dispatchers said a nurse canceled the call.

SUNDAY

4:58 a.m. — A 63-year-old man with a broken leg — possibly the patient who fell the night before at Salem Home — was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance to NMC Health. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 7:20 a.m.

10:17 a.m. — A clammy 61-year-old woman throwing up at a home in the 900 block of N. Vine St. in Peabody declined to be taken to a hospital by Hillsboro ambulance.

1:30 p.m. — A 94-year-old woman who fell at Marion Assisted Living was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance.

6:52 p.m. — Marion firefighters determined that a fire alarm at a home on Narrow Rd. in Canada was a false alarm caused by a cooking accident.

MONDAY

2:49 p.m. — An uninjured 79-year-old man who fell at a home in the 600 block of N. Elm St. in Peabody was helped up by Hillsboro ambulance attendants. He declined to be taken to a hospital.

4:51 p.m. — Peabody firefighters quickly determined that a security company’s fire alarm at Westview Manor, which did not answer dispatchers’ phone calls, was a false alarm.

7:24 p.m. — A similar second alarm at Westview Manor also was a false alarm, but this time firefighters inspected equipment in an attempt to determine what was wrong.

9:28 p.m. — An extinguished tree fire caused by fireworks in the 200 block of N. Olive St. in Peabody was checked by Peabody firefighters to make sure it was out.
