Broadcasts about these fire and ambulance calls were monitored this past week by the newspaper:

JULY 21

10:33 a.m. — A 74-year-old man with swelling after an amputation was taken by Marion ambulance to Hillsboro Community Hospital from a farmhouse on Remington Rd. north of 210th Rd.

1:56 p.m. — An 80-year-old man who fell out of his car in the 800 block of N. 8th St. in Florence was taken to St. Luke Hospital, Marion, by Marion ambulance.

4:01 p.m. — Smoldering hay bales, grass, and a tree limb along a driveway north of 20th and Xavier Rds. were extinguished within an hour by Burns firefighters.

4:25 p.m. — A 78-year-old woman with chest pain was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from HCH to Kansas Heart Hospital, Wichita.

5:39 p.m. — A 37-year-old male hospice patient who fell and hit his head at Peabody Health and Rehab was taken to NMC Health, Newton, by Marion ambulance. A Peabody first responder provided care until the ambulance arrived. Tampa ambulance was ordered to stand by until 7:04 p.m. in Marion in case of additional calls.

9:13 p.m. — A report of a natural gas leak at Dollar General in Marion was determined by Marion firefighters to be a false alarm.

10:31 p.m. — Marion ambulance transferred a previous patient from NMC Health back to Peabody Health and Rehab.

JULY 22

6:19 p.m. — Hillsboro ambulance and an ambulance supervisor stood by at the county fair in Hillsboro during a rodeo.

10:12 p.m. — An 89-year-old woman with coughing and chest pains at Salem Home in Hillsboro was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.

10:12 p.m. — A man who fell at a garage in the 500 block of S. Cedar St. in Marion was helped up by Marion ambulance attendants. He declined to be taken to a hospital.

10:19 p.m. — A report of a small grass fire near oil tanks at 220th and Meridian Sts. was determined by Hillsboro firefighters to be an illusion created by lighting.

11:33 p.m. — Marion ambulance and firefighters were told to stand by at US-77 and K-256 until law enforcement officers could secure the US-56/77/K-150 roundabout before responding to a wreck there. Firefighters were told they would not be needed, but the ambulance ended up taking one unidentified person to St. Luke.

THURSDAY

2:24 a.m. — A 36-year-old man with a broken spine was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to Wesley Medical Center, Wichita.

Transmissions from 2:53 a.m. to 6:13 p.m. were not recorded because of technical problems related to power anomalies.

6:45 p.m. — A helicopter ambulance appeared to airlift an unspecified patient from south of US-50 near Peabody.

7:21 p.m. — What appeared to be a smoky burning of brush and a vacuum cleaner near the 300 block of W. Marion St. in Lehigh was checked by Lehigh firefighters.

7:49 p.m. — A 58-year-old woman with cardiac issues was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from HCH to Wesley.

9:15 p.m. — Marion ambulance and an ambulance supervisor were dispatched for a competitor injured at the Marion County Fair rodeo, but the call was canceled after law enforcement officers reported that the competitor would decline treatment.

10:11 p.m. — A 45-year-old man was transferred by Marion ambulance from HCH to Kansas Heart.

11:26 p.m. — Marion ambulance and firefighters were alerted to a report of a wreck on Nighthawk Rd. south of 190th Rd., but the report was determined before they arrived to be a false alarm caused by a smart phone falling from a vehicle.

FRIDAY

2:40 a.m. — A 30-year-old man having trouble breathing near Quail Creek and 330th Rds. was checked at law enforcement officers’ request by Tampa ambulance attendants. The man declined to be taken to a hospital.

4:55 a.m. — An uninjured 85-year-old man who fell off a toilet at a home in the 300 block of Meadow Ln. in Goessel was helped up by Hillsboro ambulance attendants. Goessel first responders were paged but did not initially respond, so Goessel firefighters also were paged. The man declined to be taken to a hospital.

2:57 p.m. — A 65-year-old woman with a pulmonary embolism at a mobile home in the 600 block of E. Marion Ave. in Goessel was taken to NMC Health by Hillsboro ambulance. Goessel first responders were paged but did not answer.

7:21 p.m. — An 86-year-old man with abdominal pain was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to NMC Health.

7:33 p.m. — Hillsboro ambulance and an ambulance supervisor stood by until 9:18 p.m. during a rodeo at the county fair in Hillsboro.

9:37 p.m. — A 15-year-old boy who hurt his head in a car-deer wreck at K-15 and 250th Rd. declined to be taken to a hospital by Hillsboro ambulance.

SATURDAY

2:04 a.m. — A small fire near 230th and Pawnee Rds. was extinguished within 20 minutes by Marion firefighters.

6:45 a.m. — An uninjured 65-year-old man who fell at a home in the 500 block of S. Cedar St. in Marion was helped up by Marion ambulance attendants. He declined to be taken to a hospital.

10:22 a.m. — At a physician’s orders, a 61-year-old woman was taken by Marion ambulance to NMC Health from a home in the 200 block of W. 4th St. in Florence.

11:20 a.m. — Hillsboro ambulance was called back to a home in the 500 block of S. Cedar St. in Marion where a 65-year-old man again had fallen and again declined to be taken to a hospital.

5:22 p.m. — Firefighters from Durham, Florence, Goessel, Hillsboro, Marion, and Peabody; county emergency managers; Tampa ambulance; and a backup ambulance based in Hillsboro standing by until around 9 p.m. at the demolition derby at the county fair in Hillsboro. No injuries were reported.

8:15 p.m. — A 62-year-old woman who fainted and had altered mental status at St. Luke was transferred by Marion ambulance to Wesley.

SUNDAY

8:16 a.m. — Firefighters from Marion, Hillsboro, and Florence; Marion and Hillsboro ambulances; and county emergency managers were sent to a smoky fire in the middle of a home in the 400 block of N. Freeborn St. in Marion. Only one Marion firefighter answered the initial page. Marion ambulance took one person to Ascension Via Christi St. Joseph Hospital, Wichita. The fire was reported under control by 9:05 a.m.

9:22 a.m. — A boater stranded off Cottonwood Point at Marion Reservoir was towed ashore within an hour by Hillsboro firefighters.

9:56 a.m. — A 60-year-old man who collapsed and suffered an apparently serious head injury near Sunflower Theatre in Peabody was taken to Wesley by Hillsboro ambulance. An ambulance supervisor also responded. Tampa ambulance was ordered to stand by in Hillsboro until 10:42 a.m. in case of additional calls.

10:54 a.m. — A dehydrated 71-year-old man, sweaty and unable to walk at a home next to a church in the 300 block of Prairie Pt. in Hillsboro, was taken to HCH by a backup ambulance based in Hillsboro. Tampa ambulance initially was dispatched, but the call was canceled.

11:33 p.m. — A 55-year-old woman with chest pains at a home in the 200 block of Grandview St. in Florence declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance.

MONDAY

1:01 a.m. — HCH asked an ambulance supervisor to help intubate a patient with respiratory failure. The patient then was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from HCH to St. Joseph.

2:18 p.m. — An alarm at Parkside Homes in Hillsboro was determined by Hillsboro firefighters to be caused by a malfunction of fire sprinklers.

3:17 p.m. — A 38-year-old man trapped in a one-vehicle wreck on 330th Rd. between Eagle and Falcon Rds. was extricated by Durham and Hillsboro firefighters and airlifted in critical condition with a broken leg and head injuries to an undisclosed hospital. A second person involved in the wreck was checked by Hillsboro and Tampa ambulance attendants and Durham first responders but declined to be taken to a hospital. An ambulance supervisor and an emergency manager also responded from Marion.
