Florence library to repair windows

A little extra money can go a long way, and Florence Public librarian Ali Johnson hopes the $1,000 grant from the Florence Community Foundation will be enough to finish repairing the library’s old and ailing windows.

The grant was awarded to the library at Monday’s Florence City Council meeting.

“The sills of the windows are rotted on the very large windows on the north of the building,” Johnson said. “Our concern is what if one fell in? It could hurt someone.”

Johnson said there are several more windows that need repaired, but they’re not on the actual library portion of the building and aren’t as in bad of condition as these.

A contractor is already hired to complete the repairs, which are scheduled to take place this summer.

Last year the library also received a grant from the foundation for window repairs and work on the front door area.

“We’re slowly making repairs,” she said. “We’ve also had some patching don on the roof, which was leaking.”

Mary Shipman also accepted a $1,000 grant for the city to pay for a new pump for the swimming pool.

This is the third year grants have been awarded through the foundation.

Recipients are not for profit groups and the money donated to the foundation stays in Florence.
