Garage serves as 'man cave'

Staff writer

Gerald Kelsey wanted a second garage so he could keep both of his cars safe from weather damage. Kelsey and wife Sharon have a single car garage connected to their house at 415 S. Coble St., Marion, that they are now using for storage.

“We had some external damage two years ago,” Kelsey said. “We had to have a new roof on the house.”

Winter Construction finished the 30-by-24-foot garage in December after three months of construction. Since then, there have been three hailstorms, including Sunday.

While the practical nature of the garage has paid dividends, the garage has had unforeseen uses. Big enough to almost fit three cars, Kelsey employs the extra space for a treadmill and a workstation.

“It’s kind of a hidey hole for me,” Kelsey said.

Kelsey has nearly completed a 16-hole, purple martin birdhouse that he worked on in the garage.

“It’s just kind of a place for me to tinker,” he said.
