Giving Tuesday donations get big match

Staff writer

Those who donate to the charity of their choice at a Nov. 28 community event can see their money go twice the distance.

Cynthia Fleming, director of Hillsboro Community Foundation, said $4,000 has been promised to match donations made during the community’s Giving Tuesday event, 4 to 6 p.m. Nov. 28 at Hillsboro City Building.

“If someone says, ‘I can only give $20,’ that means their donation will become $40,” Fleming said.

Fleming said participants can designate a favorite 501(c)3 organization if they wish or simply make a donation for the community foundation to use for Impact Fund grants.

“If it’s not designated, it goes into our Impact Fund,” Fleming said. “Any affiliate of a 501(c)3 can apply for an Impact Fund grant.”

The foundation has a fund to build a community splash pad.

Another fund has been established to build a basketball court at Memorial Park.

“The creators of funds were given the opportunity to join us on Giving Tuesday to visit about their funds with those attending,” Fleming said. “The funds who responded and will be a part of the event are: David F. Wiebe Memorial Fund for the Hillsboro Pioneer Adobe House and Museum, Museum Advisory Board-Bartel House Fund, Hillsboro Community Development Fund, Hillsboro Outdoor Basketball Courts Fund, and Hillsboro Splash Park Fund.”

Foundation board members will be on hand to discuss the Hillsboro Impact Fund and the foundation in general, she said.

Donations of canned food for Main Street Ministries will be collected, and new stocking caps, gloves, and socks for Hillsboro students will be collected.
