Goessel cross-country has strong showing at Hesston

For the boys’ team, it came down to a tiebreaker in the large cross-country meet at Hesston Thursday.
Chicco Bertozzi finished in 23rd place in the junior division, six seconds ahead of a Beloit runner which gave Goessel fourth place, Beloit fifth and Berean sixth, out of 19 teams.
“It was a great day to run and a great day to run well,” said coach Brian Lightner.
The cross-country teams were allowed only on cart paths, after overnight rains at the Hesston golf course.
Sophomore Dawson Duerksen finished in sixth place with a spectacular time of 18:20.4.
Nathan Impson ran 20:03.00 for 20th; Jacob Schrag, 12th with 20:15.4, and Timothy Schrag was 14th with 20:19:0, medaling in the freshman division.
Jerah Schmidt finished with a personal best 18:52.0 for 8th place in the junior division.
Brendon Hicks ran in the senior race with a time of 20:18.50.
The Goessel girls finished in 10th place out of 15 schools.
Medaling for the Bluebirds were Elsie Clark with a 4th place finish with 22:38.7, in the freshman division.
Elyse Boden finished 9th with 23:45.4 in the junior class and Cassandra placed 20th with a 25:35.8 time in the sophomore division.
Junior Porclein Unruh was 18th at 25:37.7 and Edel Miller, with 27:08:7, came in 19th in the senior division.
Goessel will race at Bennington Wednesday.
