Goessel duo qualifies for state

The Goessel Bluebird track team found the going tough Thursday at the regional meet at Smith Center.

Stephany Meyer and Elsie Clark were the sole qualifiers for Friday and Saturday’s state meet at Wichita State’s Cessna Stadium.

Meyer took second place in long jump, leaping 14-feet 11½ inches, while Clark’s personal best of 5-2 was good for third.

The Bluebirds might have added another qualifier for the boys in Jerah Schmidt, but he just missed out in the 1600-meter run finishing fifth in 4:55.29.

Schmidt also took sixth in the 800 with a time of 2:09.56.

Clark is scheduled to compete Friday at 8 a.m. with Meyer jumping at 11:30 a.m. Saturday.
