Rapid scoring for the Bluebirds allowed them to dominate the game with Burrton and win their second district game of the season, 58-6, on Friday.

Speedster Shane Goerzen recovered a fumble in the Burrton end zone to begin the barrage of touchdowns. Trey Schimdt was able to keep the ball and score the conversion. Schmidt found running room for the second Bluebird score on a 30-yard gallop and the Bluebirds led 14-0.

Goessel’s scoring continued to be successful through the air as Schmidt found Goerzen for a 35-yard touchdown, Nic Buller for a 27-yard score, and Zach Showalter for an 11-yard strike. Schmidt ran in for one conversion and Kellen Froese also crossed the goal line for a two-point conversion. Goessel led at halftime, 36-0.

The Bluebirds’ defense kept the Chargers out of the end zone for another 9 minutes and the home team continued to add points on the board.

Froese powered in from 2 yards with Schmidt running in the conversion. On a 12-yard run, Schmidt crossed the goal line and Froese ran in for the conversion. With the touchdown, the Bluebirds led 52-0. Burrton scored with less than 3 minutes to play on a 35-yard run, but the Bluebirds added another touchdown with Chase Flaming scoring his first varsity points on a 7-yard run.

With the point differential more than 45 points, the game ended after the third period, 58-6. Goessel is now on a two-game winning streak with an overall record of 2-2 and a district record of 2-0.

The Bluebirds will be at Tescott on Friday for a district showdown. Tescott is 1-0 in district play having beaten Burrton 62-24 earlier this season.
