Goessel girls cross country state bound

With four runners placing in the top 20, Goessel girls cross country cashed a ticket to state with a second-place team finish at a regional meet Saturday in Wichita.

Goessel finished 6 points behind first and 4 points ahead of third place.

Individually, Julia Nightengale paced the Bluebirds, finishing eighth with a time of 22 minutes, 19 seconds. Jennifer Meysing placed 11th, Elyse Boden, 15th, and Lauren Rymill, 17th.

The Goessel boys have only four runners on their team, and finished in fifth place, missing a chance to run as a team at state by 6 points.

Devon LeRoy came in 8th place with a time of 19:07 to qualify for the state meet. Freshman Brody Schroeder earned 18th, Zackary Guerrero placed 30th, and Nate Impson finished 32nd.

The girls team will run at 11:45 a.m. Saturday at Wamego Country Club and LeRoy will compete at 10 a.m.
