Goessel runners win league cross-country championships

The Bluebirds capped last week’s Wheat State League race by winning the league championship for the boys and girls races at Harvey County West Park.

Elyse Boden led the team, and finished first overall.

Her three teammates all medaled in the WSL standings, with Porclein Unruh in sixth, Katelyn Olson eighth, and Alyssa Boden 13th.

The Goessel boys finished with nine medals, and took the league championship as a team. Jerah Schmidt, who took second place, spearheaded the effort.

Five top-10 finishers closely followed, with Jacob Schrag in fifth, Dawson Duerksen sixth, Timothy Schrag seventh, Jaime Fabrellas eighth, and Ben Olson 10th. The remaining three runners placed highly as well, with David Sawyer 15th, Dustyn Gagnon 17th, and Dominic Englstad’s 22nd-place finish just missing the top 25.

Girls race results: Elyse Boden, 1st, 22:12; Porclein Unruh, 6th, 27:07; Katelyn Olson, 8th, 27:39; and Alyssa Boden, 13th, 31:20.

Boys race results: Jerah Schmidt, 2nd, 18:22; Jacob Schrag, 5th, 18:59; Dawson Duerksen, 6th, 19:31; Timothy Schrag, 7th, 19:58; Jaime Fabrellas, 8th, 20:05; Ben Olson, 10th, 20:18; David Sawyer, 15th, 21:12; Dustyn Gagnon, 17th, 21:22; Dominic Englstad, 22nd, 25:16.
