Goessel volleyball opens season with losses

Goessel volleyball faced Haven in the team’s first match of the season, but it was the seventh for Haven, and the Wildcats took advantage of the difference in experience.

Haven snuck out a win in the first set, 25-22, dropped the second, 25-11, but took advantage of Bluebird errors to win the third set and match, 25-14.

Against Ell-Saline, again the Bluebirds went three sets and lost in three close games 21-25, 25-22, 20-25.

The Bluebirds are 0-2 and will play Wheat State League matches with Elyria (0-2) at Centre (1-1) on Tuesday.

Because of safety concerns with the gym floor, Goessel will hold Saturday’s invitational tournament at Sedgwick.
