Goessel win streak reaches 21

The Goessel Bluebirds defeated Class 3A Wabaunsee on the way to winning the Olpe volleyball tournament Saturday.

Goessel tangled with Madison in its first match of the day and won 25-16, 25-19.

The Bluebirds dominated Northern Heights in its second match, winning 25-13, 25-18.

Against Wabaunsee, ranked seventh in Class 3A, Goessel won the first set 25-23. The match developed into a see-saw battle when Wabaunsee took command late in the second set, winning 25-18. Goessel found momentum again in the third set to take the victory 25-18.

Against league foe Peabody-Burns, Goessel dominated throughout, winning 25-13, 25-12.

The Bluebirds were in cruise control in the afternoon as they breezed past Olpe 25-14, 25-13 for the championship.

Goessel continued to control their destiny in the Wheat State League with two wins.

The Blubirds defeated Solomon 25-7, 25-11, and dismantled Little River 25-9, 25-14, although Little River was as close at 15-13 in the second set.

Goessel ended the week with an overall record of 21-0, and a league record of 6-0.

Goessel was scheduled to finish the league season at home on Tuesday with matches with Wakefield and St. Xavier. Goessel will be participating in the Canton-Galva tournament on Saturday.
