Golfers compete in 2A state tournament

After qualifying as a team at regionals in Belleville with 428 strokes, Hillsboro golfers shot a 409 to place 10th of 12 teams Monday at the 2A state golf meet in Salina.

“It was by no means our best team score,” coach Scott O’Hare said, “but I’m still proud of these guys. They have improved tremendously and will only get better.”

Individually, each Hillsboro golfer bettered his score by several strokes from the front nine to the back nine.

After 18 holes, Elias Werth was the only Trojan to break the 100 mark, shooting a 99 to place 46 of 88 golfers.

Elliot Ollenburger shot an even 100 to place 51st, Carson Herbel placed 59th with a 104, and Colin Settle, shot 106 to come in 66th.

“This experience at the state tournament will be very beneficial going into next season,” O’Hare said.
