HHS FFA attends national convention

Hillsboro FFA sent nine members to the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Ind.

The group traveled Oct. 22 to Kansas City. The next day they went to St. Louis, Mo., where they went up the Gateway Arch and toured Anheuser-Busch.

On Oct. 24, the group arrived in Indianapolis and attended the opening session of the convention. The speaker was figure skater Scott Hamilton, and there was a concert by Brantley Gilbert and the Band Perry. They also participated in the Rally to Fight Hunger, packing meals to feed the hungry in Indianapolis and Haiti.

The students attended a career show, a hypnosis show, and a Professional Bull Riders rodeo on Oct. 25.

They attended another motivational speech session on Oct. 26, delivered by former professional basketball player Walter Bond. They also participated in another food project at Gleaner Food Bank, packaging about 4,000 backpack meals to be given to schoolchildren. The group returned Oct. 27.

Chapter members attending the convention were Hannah Bartel, Taylor Carlson, Lisa Geis, Valerie Klassen, Riley Loewen, Jesse Meier, Ethan Oborny, Bryce Roberts, and Jordan Siebert. Sponsors were Sonya Roberts, Alex Jost, and Jessica Taliaferro.
