Hillsboro golf places fourth at Halstead

Staff writer

The Hillsboro golf team placed fourth at the Halstead Invitational Tournament April 30 with a four-man score of 389.

“We are still not where I would like us to be, but under the circumstances this spring, I feel pretty good about the scores these guys shot,” coach Scott O’Hare said.

Evan Ollenburger got back into the 80s at the meet, which O’Hare said was good to see.

“He was hitting the ball pretty well all day and just struggled around the greens on a few holes,” he said. “The only disappointment for him was the 8 that he took on the final hole of the tournament. He had avoided any big numbers all day, but hit one out of bounds on the last hole, costing him a two stroke penalty.”

Andrew Meier also regained his form and posted his lowest round of the season, as did Philip Ediger, almost breaking the 100 mark.

O’Hare hopes to get a few more fair-weather practice days before the regional tournament on May 13.

“These guys are so close,” he said. “With a few adjustments and additional practice time to gain more confidence and feel for the game, they could all have a nice finish to the regular season.”

Evan Ollenburger finished at 89; Andrew Meier, 90; Philip Ediger, 100; and Graham Pankratz, 110.
