Hillsboro students named robotics champions

Eight Hillsboro High School students won awards at the Technology Students Association and VEX competitions March 28 through April 1 at the Webster Conference in Salina.

Jordan Bezdek and Evan Ollenberger were the VEX Tournament champion with their robot “Mammoth.”

Erich Herbel was part of the first-place structural engineering team with Chase Meisinger, won first place for dragster design, won second place for flight endurance, and was a part of the robot skills finalist team with Garrett Foster with their robot, “Toto.” Foster also won second place for dragster design.

Other winners included Franklin Jost, third place for manufacturing prototype; Reece Berens, fourth place webmaster, Tyler Proffit as a programming skills finalist.

Hillsboro will host a VEX Sack Attack event May 4 in Robert C. Brown Gymnasium.
