Team brings back 6 letterwinners

“Fairly small but experienced” is the way Greg Wyatt, the boys’ basketball coach at Centre High School, described his team.
“Most teams we play will be a great deal bigger than us so we will have to block out well in order to limit the number of shots opponents get,” he said.
Six of the 20 members of the squad are returning letterwinners. Of those, Kyle Methvin, a 6-foot-1-inch senior forward, is the tallest, and Grant Srajer, a 5-4 senior guard, is the shortest. Along with 6-foot senior guard Ty Simons, they are returning starters.
Other letterwinners are Dakota Stimpson, a 5-8 junior guard, and Tanner Peterson and Chad Mueller, both 5-11 senior forwards.
Wyatt sees five varsity newcomers as playing key roles this season. He hopes to use Nick Salamone, a 6-4 senior and the tallest member of the team, in the center position. The others are Justin Bina, a 5-10 junior forward; Jared Barney, a 5-10 junior guard; Conner Montgomery, a 5-5 junior guard; and Kevin Lewis, a 6-2 senior forward.
Other members of the squad are Cole Methvin, Jacob Matz, James Mercer, Nathaniel Engler, Brendon Bina, Daniel Rudolph, James Spohn, Dylan Deines, and Terren Thompson.
Wyatt said the league is fairly balanced. He expects Rural Vista, Solomon, and Little River to be Centre’s strongest opponents.
Wyatt is in his fifth year as boys’ head coach and his 30th year in coaching. His overall record is 466 wins and 239 losses. Last year’s record was 12-10. Richard Idleman is his assistant.
