Man found after 9½-hour search

After a 9½-hour searching, 71-year-old Terry Steiner was found Tuesday morning with no need for immediate medical attention after his truck became stuck in rough county road along Old Mill Rd. between 260th and 270th Rds.

Terry went for a drive Monday afternoon and was supposed to be back by 7 p.m. but never returned to his home near 290th and Sunflower Rds., according to Marion County Sheriff reports.

His wife, Deanna, called the sheriff’s office just before midnight to report Terry missing, and deputies and family members began looking for him.

The search widened at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, when the sheriff’s department, Lincolnville, Marion, and Hillsboro Fire departments, and Emergency Management joined those already looking.

An outpost was set up in near 210th andSunflower Rds., and search parties followed a grid.

A deputy found Steiner’s truck at 9:26 a.m., but the roads were impassable, so rescuers approached from the opposite direction. Terry was found “in good spirits,” according to reports. The vehicle was left at the scene to be removed by the family later.

Terry arrived home with rescuers at 10 a.m. Tuesday, and received medical treatment there.

It was unknown why Terry was on Old Mill Rd. at the time his vehicle became stuck, sheriff Rob Craft said.

The Steiner family was unable to be reached for comment.
