Marion businesses salute farmers

Marion Chamber of Commerce will have its annual Farm/City Appreciation Banquet at 6 p.m. Nov. 25 in the Marion Community Center.
The long-running tradition includes a meal of Kansas City strip steak, baked potato, and other sides, Roger Hannaford said.
He said the banquet has been an annual event since at least the 1970s, when he became involved with it.
Attendance has declined over the years, though, as farm families become fewer and smaller, Hannaford said. At its peak, the Chamber of Commerce served up to 500 steaks at the banquet. That has decreased to around 250, he estimated.
Anyone interested in donating or volunteering can contact Hannaford at Hannaford Abstract & Title or Margo Yates at the Chamber of Commerce office.
