Brody Coleman finished fourth Saturday at a Hesston wrestling meet, ending the day with a record of 3-2.

Treygan Miesse and Sam Rziha also finished 3-2 on the day.

“Some things that we definitely have to work on moving forward are match awareness, such as knowing where we’re at on the mat, knowing when there is short time, and not giving up last-second points,” coach Tyler McMichael said. “Our conditioning is another aspect that we will have to highlight moving through the season.”

Sigsbee Ostlee and Morgan Dixon both finished the day 2-2.

Cadence Bialek went 1-3, and Evan Klenda went 0-3.

“The last thing that I think would help put us in a better position would be ramping up our aggressiveness but keeping it controlled,” McMichael said. “I am excited to see how we bounce back this week with the Marion County Duals on Friday.”

Marion and Hillsboro will play host for the county duals this Friday, half in Marion and half in Hillsboro, starting at 3 p.m.

Hillsboro

Hillsboro boys were in Ellis on Friday, and Mason Bartel led the team with a fourth-place finish.

“This Ellis Tournament is a very solid early season tournament that provides a great measuring stick for our wrestlers and allows us to see several western Kansas schools that we won’t see again until the State tournament,” coach Scott O’Hare said.

Copeland Krause finished sixth. Phoenix Fickes and Hudson Rogers both finished seventh.

“Particularly this year, it provided a real wake up for several of our younger wrestlers’,” O’Hare said.“Honestly, I do believe at this point we are on track with the techniques we have installed and have been working on in practice and the lack of wins really can’t be chalked up to lack of effort,” O’Hare said.

Hillsboro will be one of the hosts with Marion for the Marion County Duals this Friday at Marion and Hillsboro. Matches are set to start around 3 p.m.

“My biggest take from this weekend was that we need to learn to attack things with more intensity and aggressiveness,” O’Hare said.
