The Mennonite Central Committee will have its 16th Flatlander Bike Ride on Saturday in North Newton. There will be 8-, 16-, 35-, 45-, and 65-mile rides, all starting at the MCC Warehouse off K-15 near 30th Street in North Newton.
Registration will be 7 to 8 a.m. Saturday with a mass start at 8. Participants should bring a bicycle, helmet, extra tire tube, and water bottle. Helmets are mandatory. The terrain is mostly flat with some rolling hills.
Riders will get cookies at water stops along the ride, and a catered lunch will be provided afterward at the MCC center. Steering committee member Annette Voth said she hopes the ride raises at least $7,000 to help construction of sand dams in Tanzania.
