Middle schoolers learn to avoid drugs

How to achieve a “natural high” was the focus of a family fun night for middle schoolers and parents April 26.

The event, sponsored by Peabody-Burns High School Teens Against Drugs and Alcohol, included student presentations, videos, and literature about positive alternatives to drug use.

TADA members Chance Elliott, Paige Murray, Kallie Hutchison, Precious Kerr, Bryant Young, and Breanna Lett shared about the dangers of marijuana.

Participants played games in the gym and had dessert in the cafeteria. Students received “above the influence” wristbands designed by TADA, and parents were encouraged to talk to their children about the dangers of drug use.

TADA recently became affiliated with Mirror, Inc.’s Youth as Resources program, which provided training and drug prevention materials and paid for the wristbands.

More information is available from TADA sponsor Annette Elliott, (620) 983-2196.
