National modern worship act The Jordan Howerton Band will play from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Feb. 8 at USD 408 Performing Arts Center in Marion to help raise money for local children.
Chris Ensley, youth minster at Marion Christian Church, is organizing the event.
“These guys are awesome,” he said. “They put on a great show. They have some super rock songs that get you pumped up and other more reflective songs with some great lyrics.”
Ensley knows the band personally and has seen them play. He said concertgoers can expect a genuine rock show and an opportunity to worship together.
“We had to move the event to the Performing Arts Center because we needed a bigger sound system to accommodate the band,” Ensley said. “They get pretty loud. The show should appeal to kids as young as 10 years old up to middle-aged people, but everyone is welcome.”
The band incorporates visual elements into their concert to enhance original songs, such as “We are free” and “River.” They also perform other popular worship cover songs.
This free event is similar to a “Worship to Build” concert Ensley organized last year with the proceeds going to an orphanage in Togo, Africa. A freewill offering will again be taken, he said, but the idea is to make a positive impact on local children in need of help.
“The money we raise will go to Marion County Juvenile Intake,” Ensley said. “It’s for kids who are in temporary custody and don’t get to go back to their old homes to get things like their favorite toys.”
