Goessel cross-country teams competed in a 2A regional meet at Meade Golf Course on Saturday and had one competitor qualify for state.

Julie Nightengale paced the girls’ team by finishing eighth with a season-best time of 23 minutes, 4 seconds, good enough to run one more race Saturday in Wamego.

The girls’ team finished fourth, one place shy of advancing to the state meet. Elyse Boden ran the 5-kilometer race in 24:58, finishing 23rd. Not far behind was Cassandra Rust, 27th in 25:31, Porclein Unruh, 31st in 26:14, and Edel Miller, 36th with a time of 26:51.

Two runners eclipsed the 20-minute mark for the boys, with Dawson Duerksen clocking 19:50 for 15th place. Jerah Schmidt came in 17th with a season-best run of 19:54. Other runners included Nathaniel Impson, 37th in 21:08, Zack Guerrero, 40th in 21:22, and Noah Regier, 42nd in 21:31.

Ninth in team qualifying times going into the regional, Goessel moved up to finish sixth.

Nightengale is scheduled to run at 12:20 p.m. Saturday at Wamego Country Club.
