Peabody hopes Marion, Hillsboro can get along

Staff writer

Peabody’s new representative on the countywide economic development corporation thinks the group could work well together, but wonders what Peabody hopes to gain from membership.

“I think it’s a big county and the two biggest towns are right in the middle, and those don’t always get along,” Merlyn Entz told city council members last week.

Mayor Larry Larsen said economic development helped all towns, although not everyone “plays well in the sand box.”

A business recruited for Hillsboro, Larsen said, could help Peabody as a bedroom community.

“I feel the outlying communities need to engage Marion and Hillsboro, and not let their problems take over the corporation,” Entz said.

After Entz said he felt good about serving on the board, council members voted unanimously to appoint him.
