ACTIVITY REPORTS

Law enforcement agencies provided these reports of their activities this past week. Routine activities such as patrols, inspections, training, report-writing, and assistance to other agencies generally are excluded. Dates may reflect starting or ending dates of officers’ shifts rather than actual dates of occurrence.

HILLSBORO

Dec. 1 — Police helped a driver who ran out of fuel at D and Ash Sts. An officer also made a presentation to ninth graders about illicit drugs. A suspicious person reported in the 800 block of E. D St. was not found.

Dec. 2 — A car backing out of a driveway hit a legally parked car in the 100 block of S. Birch St. A person who a resident reported hearing outside her Parkside Homes apartment was not found. A disconnected 911 call came from the 300 block of S. Ash St. Police talked to a resident about a child-custody dispute and to another resident about a possible violation of an order of protection from abuse.

Dec. 3 — A vehicle pulling out from Pizza Hut hit an eastbound vehicle in the 900 block of W. D St. and then drove off. Police traveled to Emporia to interview someone about an active case. A driver was warned for going the wrong way in a school zone at A and Wilson Sts. Another driver was ticketed for having expired registration in the 100 block of W. 3rd St. No problems were found in checking on a report of a possible burglary in the 400 block of N. Ash St. Police also checked on a resident of the 300 block of S. Main St.

Thursday — Possibly illegal hunting was reported near the sewerage plant on S. Wilson St. Drivers were warned for failing to use a turn signal at Adams and 3rd Sts., for driving without headlights at Main and C Sts., and for having no taillights at Ash and F Sts.

Friday — A vehicle backed into another vehicle while in the drive-thru at Hillsboro Hometown Pharmacy. A driver was warned for driving without headlights at Washington and D St. Police helped a driver at US-56 and Adams St. and checked on a resident of the 700 block of W. Grand Ave., where there also was a complaint about an animal.

Saturday — Another accident was investigated at Pizza Hut, this time in the drive-thru lane. A driver near Ash and 3rd Sts. who was determined to be merely looking for a business was originally reported as suspicious. Another driver was warned for running a stop sign at Adams and D Sts. Police patrolled on foot during Down Home Christmas.

Sunday — Police talked to a resident about a child-custody issue

MARION

Dec. 1 — Harassment was reported in the 200 block of S. Freeborn St. A possible scam was reported. A wreck near 1st and Main Sts. was investigated. A disconnected 911 call from Marion Elementary School proved to be a misdial. Drivers were warned for speeding at Main and Lincoln Sts. and at Main and Cedar Sts. Marion’s drug-sniffing police dog was used by sheriff’s deputies in two traffic stops on US-50 west of Florence; the sheriff’s office has not released any information about these stops.

Dec. 2 — Five drivers were warned for speeding or equipment violations at Main and 5th St., US-56 and Cedar St., and US-56 and Timber Rd.

Dec. 3 — Police helped Oasis special education school with an out-of-control juvenile and helped deputies investigate a possible burglary on Quail Creek Rd. The county has not released any information about that incident. Police also took a driving complaint.

Thursday — Police checked on a resident of the 100 block of N. 2nd St., received a noise complaint from S. Grant St., and made no arrests after a disturbance in the 500 block of N. Freeborn St. A driver was warned for an equipment violation on US-56 at Timber Rd.

Friday — Police stood by during a civil matter in the 500 block of N. Freeborn St., the same block in which a disturbance was reported the day before. Drivers were warned for equipment violations, speeding, or failing to stay in their lane on US-56 at Timber Rd. and Cedar St. One was ticketed for having no proof of liability insurance. During one of the stops, police searched a vehicle, but no charges are being filed. Police and Marion’s police dog helped deputies with a traffic stop at 80th and Upland Rds. in which one person allegedly fled from the vehicle. The sheriff’s department has released no information about the incident. However, jail records indicate that Brittany N. Hamilton, 35, Florence, was arrested on suspicion of possessing stimulants and drug paraphernalia, theft by deception, interfering with law enforcement, and driving an unregistered vehicle.

Saturday — Police checked on a resident of the 500 block of S. Cedar St. and investigated a wreck on private property. Drivers were warned for speeding or equipment violations on US-56 at Timber Rd. and Cedar St.

Sunday — A driver was warned for speeding on US-56 at Timber Rd. Police backed up Hillsboro police at a disturbance. Hillsboro police have released no information about the incident.
