ACTIVITY REPORTS

Law enforcement agencies provided these reports of their activities this past week. Routine activities such as patrols, inspections, training, report-writing, and assistance to other agencies often are excluded. Dates may reflect starting or ending dates of officers’ shifts rather than actual dates of occurrence.

HILLSBORO

Dec. 8 — A dog at large near Casey’s General Store was returned to its owner.

Dec. 9 — A loose dog’s owner was identified, and the dog picked up. No problems were found in checking on a report of a possible break-in in the 100 block of N. Adams St. A driver was ticketed for having expired registration in the 400 block of N. Adams St.

Dec. 10 — Routine activities.

Thursday — Police investigated a minor wreck involving a city trash truck. A lost cell phone was returned to a resident. Police completed background checks for applicants wishing to sell beer in the city, helped deputies with an arrest in Lehigh, talked to a resident about damage to a vehicle in the 400 block of N. Ash St., and checked streetlights for the city electric department.

Friday — Residents had questions about VIN inspections and stray cats. Police checked on a resident of the 200 block of S. Lincoln St. and contacted a resident whose garage door was open.

Saturday — Police talked to a resident about abandoned property and heard a complaint from another resident about unwanted text messages.

Sunday — A dog bite was reported. No problems were found in checking on a report of a possibly impaired driver. Police talked to nursing staff at Hillsboro Community Hospital about an unspecified property matter. A report of a disturbance proved unfounded. Police helped deputies with a burglary case.

MARION

Dec. 8 — Police investigated two wrecks on the north hill, responded to a civil matter in the 500 block of N. Freeborn St., spoke to someone about an unspecified issue at Marion High School, and conducted extra patrols for a downtown business owner. They also helped sheriff’s deputies with a criminal damage case in which an arrest was made in Peabody. And they warned a driver for speeding at 3rd and Water Sts.

Dec. 9 — Police responded to what was reported to be a plane crash but actually was a safe emergency landing near the southern border of the county.

Dec. 10 — Police aided deputies in investigating a possible disturbance at Marion Reservoir’s Cottonwood Point and helped inspect a building in the 100 block of W. Santa Fe St.

Thursday — What was reported as a possible theft in the 200 block of S. Cedar St. was determined to be a civil matter. A driver was warned for speeding at US-56 and Timber Rd. Police helped deputies with a traffic stop on US-77 two miles north of Florence.

Friday — Police were called to the 100 block of N. Cedar St. for what was determined to be a civil issue and investigated what was reported to be an intentional drug overdose on Victory Ln.

Saturday — Police helped an owner locate near the owner’s residence a dog that had become loose. Drivers were warned for defective equipment on US-56 at Cedar St. and Timber Rd.

Sunday — Police helped deputies with an unspecified disturbance on US-56 near Quail Creek Rd.
