Richard Morse

Richard Roger “Dick” Morse, 69, of Springfield, Ill., died May 28 at St. John’s Hospital. He was born Feb. 24, 1944, in Pampa, Texas, to Roger H. and Marie (Stover) Morse.

He grew up in Marion and graduated from Marion High School in 1962. He earned a bachelor’s degree in art history from Amherst College in Amherst, Mass., and a master’s degree in architecture from Harvard Graduate School of Design in Cambridge, Mass. He married Nathela Chatara in 1973 in Ashland, Ill.

He formed Melotte-Morse Architects with Ralls Melotte in 1978. The partnership grew to become Melotte Morse Leonatti Parker.

He was involved in organizations focusing on architecture, environmentally friendly building, history preservation, schools, and general community service.

He is survived by his wife, Nathela Chatara of Springfield; one daughter, Eteri of Carlsbad, Czech Republic; two sons, Nicholas of Prague, Czech Republic, and Michel of Chicago; one sister, Jean Slater of Canon City, Colo.; and two grandchildren.

Visitation was Friday at Boardman-Smith Funeral Chapel in Springfield. Services were Saturday at First Presbyterian Church in Springfield. Memorial funds have been established for Rotary District 6460 Youth Exchange and the Acorn Legacy Campaign, Lincoln Memorial Gardens.
