Runners-up headed to state tourney

The Hillsboro High School golf team punched its ticket to the May 21 Class 2A state golf tournament at Pittsburg on Monday, taking second place in the Hillsboro regional.

For the senior trio of Elliot Ollenburger, Elias Werth, and Colin Settle, it’s their third year of qualifying.

The Trojans’ score of 358 left them 86 over regional champion Sacred Heart’s 272 in the six-team field.

Individually, Ollenburger paced the Trojans, shooting an 83 after a struggle on the back nine for eighth place.

Junior Joe Knoll was 13th, shooting a 91, with Werth equaling for 15th.

Knoll’s 41 on the back nine left him the top finisher in a three-way tie with Werth posting a 45 on the front and 46 on the back.

Settle was 16th with a 93 and Avery Unruh was 22nd with a 103.

Darian Ratzlaff rounded out the scoring with a 108 for 25th out of 40 finishers.

The Trojans will travel to the Crestwood Country Club in Pittsburg Monday with tee time scheduled for 10 a.m.
