Ruth Marea Wright passed from this life into the next on July 26, 2013, surrounded by her family. Ruth was a longtime Peabody resident. Over the years she assisted her husband in his business ventures and worked as a nurse’s aide and later as a cook at the nursing home and finally for the Peabody-Burns school district for 17 years.
She was born in 1922 at DeGraf, Kan., where she helped raise her three younger sisters, beginning at age 14. This helped forge a very close-knit family throughout their lives.
Ruth’s hobbies included knitting, crocheting, and tatting gifts for her friends and family. In 2011 she knitted nearly 100 stocking hats that were donated to various cancer organizations in Kansas and Idaho. She also loved playing cards and word games. Even more, she loved when two of her great-great-grandchildren came to visit on their grandma’s day off. Ruth also loved to travel, whether to Europe to visit her daughter and family or just to the old neighborhood where she grew up.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil; her parents, Madeline and Guy Parsons; two grandchildren, Drew and Annette; a sister, Mary; and a brother, Guy.
She is survived by her son, Guy, and his wife, Janis, of Marion, Kan.; her daughter, Cecilia, and her husband, Dennis, of Mountain Home, Idaho; seven grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind two sisters and their spouses, a sister-in-law, a brother-in-law, many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and –nephews, and great-great-nieces and –nephews.
A visitation was from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, July 29, at Baker Funeral Home in Peabody. A memorial service was at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 30, at Peabody United Methodist Church. Interment followed at Sunset Lawns Cemetery in El Dorado, Kan. Memorials have been established with Peabody Senior Center and Peabody United Methodist Church.
