Sechrist wins league championship in cross-country

Staff writer

Hillsboro seniors Emily Sechrist and Karyn Leihy were among the 42 varsity girls who participated Thursday in the Central Kansas League cross-country championship, and both placed in the top 10.

Sechrist won the four-kilometer run, finishing in 15 minutes, 16.8 seconds. Leihy finished ninth, with a time of 17:58.8.

“It was another outstanding meet, as everyone ran with extra determination,” coach Stuart Holmes said. “Our senior girls ran especially great races again. Emily won her third straight CKL championship, and Karyn earned her third straight all-league designation by earning a medal. Emily won by 44 seconds, and Karyn improved from 14th last year to ninth this year. Both are running well as we look forward to regionals Saturday.”
