Solar panel installation begins at Goessel

Staff writer

Crews broke ground Thursday on USD 411’s solar voltaic panel project.

Superintendent John Fast said Mark Horst and his team from King Solar are handling the prep-work.

The project’s timeline initially included a late February early March completion date, but Fast said crews told him that everything should be online and operational by mid-January, weather permitting.

“Apparently some things changed in the company’s scheduling,” Fast said.

Most USD 411 staff members will have access to software that monitors the panels’ energy output, Fast said. The software is meant to help students grasp how solar energy is collected and converted to electrical energy.

USD 411 staff members drafted the project’s $73,000 grant before Westar Energy approved it.
