Tabor scholarship endowed in coach's honor

Floyd E. Bergen, a 1962 alumnus of Tabor College in chemistry, has donated more than $1 million worth of stock to establish a basketball scholarship in honor of former Tabor men’s basketball coach Del Reimer.

“I have thought for years how to honor the man who taught me so much while at Tabor, Dr. Del Reimer,” Bergen said. “It is my privilege to endow a scholarship in his honor as my coach and mentor.”

Bergen donated more than $1 million worth of stock in PepsiCo (PEP on the New York Stock Exchange) to establish the scholarship.

“We will continue to hold the stock and use the dividends to fund the scholarship,” Tabor College President Jules Glanzer said.

Reimer was the coach of the Tabor men’s basketball team from 1957 to 1970. He also served as athletic director and coach of several other teams in 30 years at Tabor College. Like Bergen, Reimer is an alumnus of the college.

The scholarship will be directed to a player on the men’s varsity basketball team.
