In spite of the chilly weather, a good crowd turned out May 5 for the summer’s first party in the park. These gatherings are planned for the first Sunday of each month throughout the summer.

Tom and Dee Duggan had appointments in Hutchinson on May 6 and visited Virginia Gawlick.

They went to Wakefield on May 7 for a brief visit with their daughter, Deb Hall, at her workplace, and to Hilltop Community Center in Herington on May 8 to play cards.

Delores Siggs of Wichita visited Adeline Bernhardt on May 7.

Allison Sluder and Brooklyn of Abilene visited Lucille Kerbs on May 7. They had dinner in Durham.

Susie Rziha of Lincoln, Neb., spent the weekend of May 4 to 5 with her parents, Jerry and Jeanne Rziha.

Those helping Jennifer Jay of Hillsboro celebrate her birthday May 5 with a dinner in Salina included Mike Jay and Cody of Hillsboro; Bev and Tom Reid of Marion; Brad Backhus; Paul and Edna Backhus; Jason Backhus; and Alisha Barney. Afterward, they gathered at Paul and Edna’s house for dessert.

Reece Berens, a freshman at Hillsboro High School, qualified for the Kansas 3A Forensics Tournament held May 4 at Wichita East High School.

He made the semifinals in informative speaking and placed ninth. Greg and Michele Berens and Addie went to watch him perform.

Russ and Julie Kerbs and Lucille Kerbs had dinner in Abilene on May 5.

The Lutheran Women’s Missionary League met at the church May 1 with Michele Berens as hostess.

Joyce Medley had opening and closing devotions, and Pastor Clark Davis led the topic.

Others present were Janet Bielefeld, Betty Mueller, Leona Kleiber, Adeline Bernhardt, and Edna Backhus.

Tom and Dee Duggan attended a Silver-Haired Legislature meeting in Topeka on May 2.

They also visited his sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Don Frick.

Donald and Carolyn Srajer visited Tillie Hein and Jim and Kris Srajer, Grant and Cole on May 1. They were en route home to Omaha, Neb., after spending the winter in Arizona.
