Teacher among 11 state honorees

Hillsboro physical sciences instructor Scott O’Hare was among 11 teachers statewide nominated for a Presidential Award of Excellence in Science Teaching.

Elementary and secondary teachers from all sizes of schools are recognized in alternating years. This year, secondary educators were recognized.

Kansas had 15 mathematics nominees and 11 science nominees. Three from each group were named state finalists this week. One from each of those groups will go on to become a national finalist.

The nominees and finalists were recognized at a three-day math and science teaching conference, continuing through today at Hutchinson Community College.

More than 100 teachers from across the state attended.

“Scott is very deserving to this nomination and represented USD 410 very well at this event,” superintendent Max Heinrichs said Tuesday.
